Located on the Nothe Peninsula. The Gardens are often acclaimed to be the most beautiful the borough has to offer with views of both Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour. In the past, the area played an important military role, hosting Nothe Fort, constructed between 1860 and 1872 by 26 Company of the Royal Engineers to protect Portland and Weymouth Harbours. Purchased by the local council in 1961. It is now a museum and remains one of the best-preserved forts of its kind in the country.
